Lil Wayne leads Grammy noms with 8; Coldplay 7

Rap's most ubiquitous and successful artist, Lil Wayne, has been showered with a leading eight Grammy nominations _ including album of the year.

Following close behind was Coldplay, with seven. Their "Viva La Vida" was also nominated for album of the year. Others in that top category included Radiohead, Ne-Yo and Robert Plant with Alison Krauss.

In the other coveted category for record of the year, the nominees were British singer Adele for "Chasing Pavement"; M.I.A for "Paper Planes"; Coldplay for their CD's title track; Leona Lewis for "Bleeding Love" and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for "Please Read the Letter."

Other multiple nominees included Kanye West, Jay-Z and Ne-Yo, who each had six.
